KITCHENER -- A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Holy Spirit Catholic Elementary School in Cambridge.
The Waterloo Catholic District School Board confirmed the development on Saturday morning following another reported case in the school on Friday.
A board representative says an additional case was identified afterwards, in a cohort of the person with the reported case, who is currently dismissed from the school.
Both cases have been identified as students on the provincial dashboard.
Despite now having three cases, only two are considered apart of the outbreak.
"It's a bit scary to think of, but I feel that our school will be safe," said Ryan Braga, a student at the school. "I hope they [the students] can come back to school and be safe again."
No more classrooms will be dismissed from the school. The board says no further action is required for the classroom in question.
Parents and staff of Holy Spirit have been contacted by the school and those affected by the case will be contacted by Region of Waterloo Public Health.
"I don't have any current concerns," said Dan Regier, a parent of a student. "I think school boards are doing everything they can, following public health recommendations. That's really all we can do through these unprecedented times.
"The kids are very happy to be back at school and be around their friends."
The development comes after the school's first reported case on Oct. 23 and another COVID-19 outbreak was declared at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Elementary School in Kitchener on Thursday.
